Congresswoman Adams Announces More Than $1.6 Million In Federal Funds For Colleges And Universities

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee and Subcommittee on Higher Education today announced more than $1.6 million in federal funding for six colleges and universities in North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program and will be used to provide services to foster retention and enhance graduation rates for disadvantaged, low-income and first generation college students. A total of thirty schools throughout North Carolina will be awarded funding through the TRIO SSS program.


“I am pleased to announce more than $1.6 million in funds for six colleges and universities in my District,” said Congresswoman Adams. “A degree can open up a world of opportunities and I am glad to know students in North Carolina will be able to access resources that help them succeed. This federal funding is much needed and will help many students who are low-income or first generation, get the support they need to finish out strong.”


Six colleges and universities in the 12th District will receive funds amounting to more than $1.6 million dollars. Central Piedmont Community College will receive $264,853; North Carolina A&T will receive $281,509; Johnson C. Smith University will receive $281,306; Davidson County Community College will receive $245,015; Winston-Salem State University will receive $241,707 and Livingston College will receive $292,340.
