Scandal Involving Governor McCrory and the State Board of Elections

Records requested after new AP reports on SBE/McCrory scandal; Serious questions remain

Raleigh – Today, the North Carolina Democratic Party filed records requests with the State Board of Elections and the Governor’s office after an AP investigation into conflicts of interest at the State Board of Elections. AP’s report Friday revealed that Governor McCrory replaced the entire elections board one day after they launched an investigation into indicted sweepstakes operator and prominent North Carolina political donor, Chase Burns.

Among Governor McCrory’s new SBE appointees was Winston-Salem attorney Paul Foley, who, according to AP, “demanded regular updates about the confidential investigation” despite working for the law firm representing Chase Burns, the indicted donor.
